The Association
Tenbury Wells has had a long association with the sale of Mistletoe that goes back over a hundred years. History shows us that a number of such markets were held in the Hereford and Worcester area; however Tenbury Wells is the only one to survive and continue with the tradition. The Town is very proud of its association with Mistletoe and still hosts the only remaining Mistletoe Auctions on the last Tuesday of November and the first in December.
Since the closing of the livestock market in 2005, where Tesco carpark is today and the place where the mistletoe auctions had been held for many years. The auctions moved outside the town. To celebrate and continue the connection with Tenbury Wells and the Mistletoe a group was set up to promote Tenbury’s mistletoe heritage and to market mistletoe in new ways: Tenbury English Mistletoe Enterprise. They managed the establishment of National Mistletoe Day every December 1st and set up the Tenbury Wells Mistletoe Festival which began in December 2005
The Association has been working hard to develop the Town’s identity with this little wondrous hemi-parasitic plant, surrounded in myth, mystery and legend.
Hopefully you will find a wealth of information within these pages about mistletoe and Tenbury's association with it.
The T.M.A was set up to continue what T.E.M.E began, keeping the Town’s association with mistletoe alive. As was the start of the annual Mistletoe Festival, which looks to celebrates the myths, legends and history of Viscum album and of Tenbury Wells.
